By now, you should have heard about climate change skeptics. These are folks who don’t believe that climate change is real. The individual in question believe that climate change is not real – in spite of the overwhelming evidence for the phenomenon. A question naturally arises, as to why these folks are skeptical about climate change.
The folks who are skeptical about climate change tend to belong to the schools of thought that view everything as a conspiracy. Against that background, they view the climate change agenda as a conspiracy that has been crafted by the rich nations, in order to keep the poor nations down. To understand the basis for this logic, you just need, for instance, to look at the difficulties that poor nations have to go through, trying to generate electricity without inducing climate change. You soon come to realize that the poor nations that opt to believe in the climate change talk are likely to remain poor. That’s the sad truth. You see, the only way such nations would have overcome poverty is by industrializing. Yet it is very hard to industrialize without doing things that are likely to exacerbate the climate change.
Of course, not all climate change skeptics are driven by such deep ideological reflections. There are some who are simply driven by their innate skeptical natures. There are people who are simply skeptical by nature. I once encountered such individuals in an organization we were working at — when a policy was introduced where we would be receiving our paychecks through the Securitasepay system. The skeptics were opposed to the idea: not because there was anything wrong with it — but simply because, by their very natures, they are simply skeptical about everything. And that too, is the case with some of the climate change skeptics: some are simply driven by their innate skeptical natures. Their innate skeptical natures tell them that ‘there must be more than meets the eye’ in the whole climate change talk. And so they decide to become skeptical about it – the merits or demerits of the climate change talk notwithstanding.
