Help organise the camp
Climate camp is a grassroots effort being organised by a diverse group of people and organisations who share a common vision for a sustainable future, and a passion for real action on climate change. We'd love for you to get involved and help organise and promote the camp.
Whatever your background, there is a role for you. We need people to help with the physical set up of the camp to make it as sustainable and low impact as possible. We need help promoting the camp and spreading the word, facilitating workshops, offering legal support for activists, handing out flyers, and promoting the camp through the media. The list goes on... there are plenty of opportunities to contribute your skills and to learn new ones.
Here are some ways you can get involved:
- Join one of the working groups helping to organise different aspects of the camp – logistics, media and networking, first aid and more.
- Invite someone already organising for Climate Camp to come and chat with your group. Send us an email: info(at)climatecamp.org.au
- Come to a climate camp non-violent direct action training being held monthly in capital cities around Australia and in Newcastle (check out the upcoming events section to find out dates).
- Organise a fundraiser for the camp in your area.
- Pass a motion or statement in your union / organisation / community group endorsing the Camp for Climate Action. See a model motion and find out more click here
- Promote the camp at your events or stalls.
- Come to one of the forums about climate change, coal and direct action being organised in Sydney and regionally.
- Organise People in Your Area! Coming to climate camp as an organised group will make for a more enjoyable and uplifting experience of the camp. We've adopted a simple, decentralised system of organising the camping, known as the Neighbourhood system and a similar system of Action-teams for planning actions and looking after each other through them. See the linked pages for more info.
The first step to getting involved is to email us at email us at info(at)climatecamp.org.au Alternatively, you contact one of the organisers to let them know the kind of skills and time you have to offer so they can help figure out the best way for you to get involved.

How climate camp is organised
Climate camp is being organised by a grassroots collective of individuals and groups using a non-hierarchical organising model and consensus decision making. There are working groups for all of the different areas (site logistics, promotion, programme, food etc) and there is also a main organising collective with members from all of the working groups. Here is a list of the different collectives that are organising the many different parts of the camp.
- Communications, promotion and Networking (getting the word out about the camp for climate action)
- Actions (planning and support for peaceful direct actions during the camp)
- Legal support (providing legal support for activists in the before, during and after the camp)
- Fundraising and financial mgmt (bringing in the big bucks and making sure we spend them wisely)
- Program (figuring out the program for the camp - workshops, speakers, facilitation etc)
- Safer Spaces (making sure the camp is a safe place - childcare, conflict resolution, complaints dept., etc)
- Camp logistics (the fun stuff - loo's, shelter, solar power, lighting and designing the camping village)
- Food (yum...)
- First Aid (ouch!)
- Action Props (organising heaps of cool stuff so that our protests are big and visual!)
- Indigenous Liaison (we're taking responsibility for the fact that the camp will be on aboriginal land)
- Transport (making sure thousands of people make it to climate camp from all over Australia!)
We invite you to get involved and help make climate camp as big, bold and effective as possible. We look forward to working with you!
