“Now or never” – Join the giant Human Sign at Climate Camp
“Now or never” – Join the giant Human Sign at Climate Camp
- 9am, Saturday 12th July
- Wickham Park, Newcastle
- A huge ticking clock, and the words “Cut Carbon – Now or Never”
Part of the Camp for Climate Action – 6 days of inspiring workshops and grassroots direct action against climate change, in the world's biggest coal port: Newcastle.
Time is running out for societies around the world to make the major changes needed to avoid runaway climate change. Greenhouse pollution must stop rising, and start falling. New coal-fired power stations must be banned, and existing ones phased out.
The nations of the world meet in Poland this December, and Denmark the year after, to agree on the climate change protocol that will replace Kyoto. If they get it wrong, and global emissions continue to rise, the world will have missed its last chance to avoid catastrophic climate change.
Here in Australia, politicians seem to think that “tackling climate change” is something that can wait until next year, or the year after, to the year 2020 or even 2050. They are wrong – we need to act now. Australia's coal exports are rapidly expanding when they should be being phased out. Several State Governments are drawing up plans for new coal-fired power stations. Australia's greenhouse pollution continues to rise.
Come to the Human Sign at Climate Camp and tell the world what needs to happen. Cutting carbon emissions can't wait until later – we have to do it now. We need as many people as possible to make a giant ticking clock – that's right, a ticking clock – and the words “Cut Carbon – Now or Never”.
The human sign will take place on the Saturday of Climate Camp:
Saturday, 12th July
Meet at 9am at the Climate Camp site – Wickham Park, Newcastle.
The human sign will be carried out with the help of the experts in this field – Clean Energy for Eternity.
